Does your company's computer equipment need power?

Mine sure does. They are going to ruin next weekend for me to prove it. I just got out of a meeting where it was decided that I get to come in at 1am next week Saturday morning to shut every server down, wait for the electrician to cut the data center over to dirty power, then bring all servers back up and test functionality. At this point the electrician(s) starts the process of replacing our current UPS (Universal Power Supply). Then at 1am on Sunday morning, I get to do it all over again while we cut back to the UPS supplied "clean" power. The whole process is needed from a company viewpoint as well as my own. In the last month, our current UPS has had 2 "glitches" and failed to supply power for about 10 seconds each. Each of those occurances caused me about 3 hours of work to test and troubleshoot each individual piece of hardware. Cross your fingers for me that next weekends endeavors are successful.

Free Microsoft Office 2007

If you can find an event coming to a city near you, here is an easy opportunity to get a free copy of the new Microsoft Office 2007. You can sign up for a half day session or stay for the full day of presentations. If your into IT/Microsoft info, these events are very informative. If you don't care about the upcoming functionality, you can sign up for the 1/2 day event, sit through a couple hours of speeches, then claim your Product Key for Office 2007 and Groove 2007. With these product keys, you can download the products from Microsoft for free. If you don't make it to the event, you can still use this link to download a 60 day free trial of the new software.

Parental Controls on my PC

Well, we have started letting our oldest child use the computer to visit sites like nickjr.com or disney.com. I think it's good that he gets comfortable using a pc to help him in the future, however I would like to be able to let him play the games without me in the room. I know it's easy to get a few stray clicks and end up on a site that is inappropriate for younger audiences. I am open to any suggestions on Parental Control software that anyone out there has used. I would love to find a free one, but I understand that you get what you pay for, so anything as long as it's reliable and customizable per profile on the pc.
